I'm Not A Robot

I first clapped eyes on indie pop songstress Marina Lambrini Diamandis not in a musical context, rather in a sartorial one: gracing the pages of some magazine or other in her now (in)famous Yang Du Hippo Dress.

Having since brought myself up to speed with her tuneage, I find her to be a refreshingly catchy antidote to the mindless thud of some other chart chaff. Her debut studio album, The Family Jewels, touches on themes of gender politics, commercialism and family values, but in a digestible, tongue-in-cheek way.

I'm also a fan of her outlandish, ballsy, pop art infused style as an alternative to the pneumatic, permatanned yawnsomeness of so many vapid popettes. She never looks overly manufactured and, crucially, appears not to take herself too seriously.

An impressive sort of gal, all in all.
