Mr. Men Google Doodles Commemorate 76th Birthday
of Late Creator, Roger Hargreaves

For the day that's in it, 16 doodles featuring such characters as Mr. Happy and Little Miss Sunshine will alternate each time the Google home page is refreshed.

The first of the original Mr. Men characters is said have been created when Hargreaves’s son Adam asked his father what a tickle looked like, leading the cartoonist to draw an orange body with long arms. The first Mr. Men book went on sale in 1971 and featured Mr. Bump, along with Greedy, Happy, Nosey, Sneeze and Tickle. Now in their 40th year, The Mr. Men and Little Miss 's have sold more than 100 million copies in 28 countries.

Meanwhile Mr Men: The Movie looks set to arrive on the big screen, with an adaptation by Twentieth Century Fox in the pipeline.

Embarrassing but true: Many a year ago, I found myself the proud winner of a book token, presented for my Little Miss Sunshine costume - complete with self-styled freckles and lurid yellow leggings - in a contest at the local library.
