Dead End Street

In recent days, it has been announced that both Gorillaz and The White Stripes are disbanding, much to my chagrin on both counts. The former have cited artistic differences as the catalyst for the split, while the White siblings have explained their main intention as being to preserve the integrity of their releases to date. In a message to fans, Meg offered an auspicious slant on events:

'The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever
if people want it to'

Related news would suggest that this is not in fact what people want. MTV has officially made the 'M' defunct, and will henceforth be primarily oriented, not toward music, but 'entertainment', presumably by way of an infinite stream of Sixteen and Pregnant and Jersey Shore.

Not a great week for the music industry, all in all.
Looks like these guys were on to something...
